Spain international of Moroccan descent Lamine Yamal has been handed a one-match ban in the UEFA Champions League due to yellow card accumulation.
Yamal was booked in Barcelona’s 2-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt on Tuesday, reaching the limit for accumulated cards deserving a mandatory one-match ban.
In the 56th minute, the18-year-old prodigy committed a reckless foul, with referee Davide Massa showing the Spaniard a yellow card, his third of the Champions League campaign.
The enterprising attacker was cautioned yellow in their last two games against PSG and Club Brugge.
However, Yamal, who also has Equatorial Guinea root will therefore be ineligible to play for Barcelona in their next Champions League game against Slavia Prague, scheduled for January 2026.
This season, Yamal has featured in 17 matches for Barça, netting 8 goals and providing 10 assists.
Currently, Barcelona sit 14th in the overall Champions League group stage standings, and progression to the next round is far from assured.
