Mohamed Salah’s frustration grows after Arne Slot explains bench role in turbulent Liverpool draw

Netherlands legend Marco van Basten has launched a fierce attack on Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah following the Egyptian’s explosive interview that criticised manager Arne Slot and questioned his treatment at the club.

Salah claimed his relationship with Slot had broken down and accused Liverpool of throwing him “under the bus” after a noticeable loss of form.

The winger has stayed behind in England to train alone while the rest of the Liverpool squad prepare in Italy for their Champions League clash with Inter Milan.

His absence has increased speculation that he could push for a move when the January transfer window opens, especially as Slot has recently preferred to leave him on the bench.

Salah’s decline this season has triggered frustration among supporters, with his interview only deepening divisions within the fanbase.

Some believe Slot handled the situation properly, while others accuse the manager of disrespecting one of the club’s most influential players.

The controversy has added pressure to a Liverpool side still searching for rhythm.

Van Basten, speaking to Ziggo Sport, criticised Salah’s behaviour and supported Slot’s stance in dropping the Egyptian.

“I’d say: the brains of a cockchafer. If you react like that… He did very well last year, but this season he’s not good. He’s just been bad these past few months. I always find Slot honest and straightforward.

“He doesn’t shy away from a fight and ultimately doesn’t say anything unwise. Salah, on the other hand, really started attacking the man and reacting incorrectly.”

With relations strained and the January window approaching, Salah’s position at Liverpool appears increasingly fragile.

The next few weeks will determine whether he remains at Anfield or seeks a swift exit from a club he once led with distinction.
