Togo has admitted its mistake in aligning Alaixys Romao during the fourth day of the qualifiers for the Brazil 2014 World Cup. The Togolese Football Federation (FTF) acknowledged that they did not verify Romao’s eligibility before fielding him in the Togo-Cameroon match. Hervé Piza, the 1st vice-president of the FTF, expressed a “mea culpa” and recognized the administrative fault, hoping that FIFA would not be too severe in its decision. The acknowledgment comes as part of FIFA’s investigation into various violations during the African World Cup qualifying campaign, with other teams also facing sanctions for fielding ineligible players.
