Khaled Eldrandaly, a member of the Egyptian Football Association’s board, has attributed Egypt’s unexpected draw against Mozambique to ill-fated circumstances rather than shortcomings on the part of the players.
In statements shared on the federation’s Facebook page, Eldrandaly stated, “We have closed the chapter on the Mozambique match and are currently focusing on the upcoming confrontation with Ghana.”
He continued, “Opening matches often witness misfortune, and a formidable team is one that overcomes such challenges and is capable of bouncing back.”
Highlighting the team’s adversity, he remarked, “Our national team faced a stroke of bad luck, especially in the first half, but everyone played their part, and now we must look forward.”
Eldrandaly emphasized, “Full support to the coaching staff led by Roy Vitoria and the players; the opportunity is still alive, so we must concentrate on the next phase.”
Adding further, he stated, “We have an exceptional generation of players who have never fallen short, fully aware of the responsibility placed upon them, supported by the coaching staff.”
The Egyptian national team stumbled early in the Africa Cup of Nations 2023, securing only two points with a surprising and disheartening 2-2 draw against Mozambique in a match held at the Boeny Stadium in Côte d’Ivoire.
Although Egypt initially took the lead with a goal from Mostafa Mohamed, Mozambique retaliated through Witi and Celso Bauque.
Mohamed Salah salvaged a draw in injury time.
The next challenge for Egypt unfolds on Thursday against Ghana at 10 PM, an opportunity to rectify the unexpected setback and regain momentum in the tournament.
