Senegal winger Ismaila Sarr could miss games until AFCON after ankle injury
Crystal Palace attacker Ismaila Sarr could be out until the Africa Cup of Nations after suffering an ankle injury during Sunday’s 2-1 defeat to Manchester United.
The forward’s condition has raised significant concern within the club, with the likelihood growing that he will not return before joining Senegal for the tournament.
Sarr went down after a forceful early challenge from Diogo Dalot and immediately signalled distress as he struck the turf in frustration.
Although he attempted to continue, his movement remained limited and he was eventually withdrawn in the 38th minute after prolonged discomfort.
Palace staff treated him on the touchline, but the swelling around the ankle intensified as the match progressed.
Manager Oliver Glasner confirmed that the winger faces an uncertain spell on the sidelines, noting the severity of the initial swelling and the need for further medical checks.
“We have to assess him further but the ankle is quite swollen,” Glasner said, explaining that the medical team expects him to miss upcoming fixtures.
He added that the club could be without him for several weeks, stating, “Maybe the whole time until he goes to AFCON.”
The setback comes at a demanding phase of Palace’s season, with injuries already affecting squad depth and consistency.
Sarr’s impending involvement with Senegal further complicates his timeline, as the Africa Cup of Nations begins on 21 December.
