With this impressive performance, Brazil solidifies its status as the big favorite for the upcoming World Cup. The earlier pessimistic comments from Pelé seem to be contradicted by the team’s recent success. Pelé had expressed concerns about the team, saying, “It seems that a 10 is currently missing, and we are having difficulty finding what a Romario, a Vava, a Careca could be at the forefront of the attack. This Cup and the year we have left can allow us to prepare a good team for the World Cup, without a doubt. They have six or seven players playing in Europe; it’s a team that plays well, runs well, and as it’s the first match, Brazil shouldn’t be too sure of themselves.
