Joseph Koto is no longer the coach of the Senegal Lions. Appointed in mid-June to lead the Senegalese national football team, Joseph Koto’s tenure has come to an end following Senegal’s elimination from the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations. The Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) officially concluded Koto’s coaching adventure on Tuesday.
Koto faced a challenging task as the successor to Pierre Lechantre, as the Senegal national team had to overcome the formidable Ivory Coast (one of the strong teams in continental football) to qualify for the 29th African Cup of Nations in South Africa. Unfortunately, the Lions of Senegal were unable to overcome this hurdle, being defeated in both the away and return matches.
As a result, Senegal will not be among the 16 nations competing in the tournament scheduled for January 19 to February 20, 2013. The draw for the competition takes place on Wednesday, and the Senegalese Lions will have to watch from afar, awaiting the appointment of their new coach.
