Victor Anichebe criticizes Nigeria Football Federation after World Cup heartbreak
Former Super Eagles star Victor Anichebe launched a strong criticism of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) after Nigeria failed for the second time in a row to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
In the aftermath of their painful defeat on penalties to the Democratic Republic of Congo during the African playoffs, Anichebe voiced his concerns on social media.
“Real change demands selflessness, long-term thinking, and building foundations that won’t produce instant rewards,” Anichebe wrote on Instagram. “If we want serious outcomes, we must start having serious conversations that lead to serious decisions.”
The defeat in Rabat left fans and players disappointed as the Super Eagles lost 4-3 on penalties after a tough match. Nigeria scored first in the game, but DR Congo equalized, and the game dragged on to penalties. With World Cup hopes crushed once more, the team is now looking ahead to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, set to kick off in Morocco next month.
