Liverpool submit final contract renewal offer for Franco-Malian defender Ibrahima Konate
Premier League giants Liverpool have made their final attempt to tie down France international of Malian, Ibrahima Konate.
The former RB Leipzig rock-solid centre-back, who is in the final year of his contract at Liverpool, has yet to sign a new deal for the club, sparking speculations about his future.
Liverpool initiated contract renewal talks with Konaté less than a year ago, but both parties have yet to reach a consensus, with offers falling below the defender’s expectations.
Meanwhile, contract renewal talks were put on hold for several months, allowing Konate to focus in the previous campaign, which culminated with a league-equaling record 20th title.
According to reports, Liverpool have submitted a final contract extension offer for the French-Malian defender, which would make him one of the highest-paid players at the Merseyside club.
His decision is expected in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, Konate can sign a pre-contract agreement with another club from January.
Meanwhile, Konate, who captained Les Bleus during Sunday’s 3-1 win over Azerbaijan, is said to be keen on a move to Real Madrid, moving to the Bernabeu on a free, as his compatriot, Kylian Mbappé, did in the summer of 2024.
Konaté joined Liverpool from RB Leipzig in 2021 for transfer fee reported to be €40m. He established himself as one of the best right-sided centre-backs in Europe alongside Virgil van Dijk.
