The Angolan Football Federation has disclosed that it has submitted a proposal for a friendly match to Nigeria as part of the preparation for the Palancas Negras for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations (CAN). Joao Lusevikueno, the vice-president of the federation, stated, “We proposed a friendly match to Nigeria, and we hope to have a satisfactory response.”
The two nations had previously faced each other in January, as Angola prepared for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations. Nigeria, not participating in the tournament, fielded a team of local players, resulting in a 0-0 draw. This time, both countries will be present at the event in South Africa.
Angola secured qualification by overcoming a challenging situation against Zimbabwe, with a turnaround victory (3-1 in the first leg, 2-0 in Luanda). On the other hand, the Super Eagles of Nigeria easily advanced by defeating Liberia 6-1 in the return match in Calabar, following a 2-2 draw in the first leg.
