Gabon Star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang name Chelsea as the worse club he’s played for
Gabon international Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has named Premier League giants Chelsea as the worse club he’s played for in his career.
Aubameyang joined the reigning FIFA Club Cup winners in September 2022 from Barcelona for a transfer fee worth €12 million.
The 36-year-odl attacker spent just a season at Stamford Bridge before joining French side Marseille in the summer of 2023. During his stint at Chelsea, the Gabonese forward made 21 appearances, scoring 3 goals and providing 1 assist.
Speaking to Daily Mail, the former Borussia Dortmund star highlighted challenging moments of his career, while naming Chelsea as the worse club he’s played for.
“My worst club? Chelsea… I think it was a BIG mistake. At the time, I was going through a tough period at Barcelona. I became the victim of a robbery at my home, and Barça had to sell a player—either I or Memphis Depay— and the only real option was Chelsea”
“So I said, ‘Alright, for my family, I’ll make the move, even if it’s to Chelsea.’ I told myself things might work out, since Olivier Giroud had no trouble moving from Arsenal to Chelsea, but for me, it was completely different…” Aubameyang admitted.
Aubameyang currently plies his trade for French Ligue 1 giants Olympique Marseille. He rejoined the club in the summer following a short spell in the Saudi Arabia top-flight.
The forward is currently with the Gabonese national team as they gear up for the crucial World Cup playoff against Nigeria on Thursday. He will be hoping to guide the Panthers to steer qualification to the final playoff, scheduled for March 2026.
