Despite wearing the captain’s armband in Ghana’s last three matches, Asamoah Gyan was not officially recognized as the rightful captain of the Black Stars. However, on Monday, team coach Kwesi Appiah confirmed that he has now designated the Al Ain striker in the United Arab Emirates as the team’s leader.
“I am pleased to announce that Asamoah Gyan is the captain of the Black Stars. I ask all players for the necessary support to Gyan in order to help him in his task of bringing success to Ghana in the upcoming tournaments,” stated Appiah. This decision raises the question of John Mensah, who had been the captain of the team until then.
Kwesi Appiah has devised a plan to appoint John Mensah as the overall captain of the team, employing an approach that is evidently English-speaking in nature. Despite Mensah currently being without a club and not having played for a while, the Ghana coach emphasizes that he remains an integral part of the squad.
