Guinea Finalizes Squad for 2018 CHAN: Lappé Bangoura Confirms His 23-Man Selection

Guinea looks fully prepared for the 2018 African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Morocco. Following a final warm-up match on Thursday against a local club in Conakry, national team coach Kanfory Lappé Bangoura has settled on his 23-man squad for the competition, according to an exclusive report by Foot224.

As expected, Horoya AC, the country’s most successful club, dominates the squad with seven players, reflecting the team’s influence in domestic football and its experience in continental competitions.

Having finished fourth in the 2016 CHAN in Rwanda, Guinea will aim to go even further this time. The Syli National Local has been drawn into Group A alongside host nation Morocco, Mauritania, and Sudan—a challenging yet open group that offers Guinea a real chance of progressing to the knockout stages.

Below is the full list of players selected by Lappé Bangoura:

Goalkeepers:

  • Abdoulaye Sylla (Hafia FC)
  • Sékou Camara (Atlético de Coléah)
  • Abdoulaye Kanté (Horoya AC)

Defenders:

  • Abdoubacar “Galle” Camara (Horoya AC)
  • Jean Claude Landel (Hafia FC)
  • Alseny Camara “Cantona” (Horoya AC)
  • Abdoulaye Naby Camara (CI Kamsar)
  • Alseny Bangoura “Tomazi” (Horoya AC)
  • Mohamed Bangoura (Satellite FC)
  • Ismaël Sylla (Fello Star)
  • Désiré Yaovi (Wakrya AC)

Midfielders:

  • Daouda Bangoura (AS Kaloum)
  • Mohamed Thiam “Guaranteed” (AS Kaloum)
  • Daouda Camara (Horoya AC)
  • Charles Fernandez (ASFAG)
  • Michel Guilavogui (Satellite FC)
  • Ibrahima Sory Sankhon (Horoya AC)
  • Amadou Oury Barry (Éléphants de Coléah)
  • Mohamed N’Diaye (Horoya AC)
  • Seydouba Bissiri Camara (AS Kaloum)

Forwards:

  • Sékou Amadou Camara (Horoya AC)
  • Sékou Keita (Milo FC)
  • Aboubacar Camara (Hafia FC)

The balance of the squad shows Bangoura’s intention to rely on domestic chemistry and familiarity, especially with the Horoya AC core that has been performing well in both domestic and CAF competitions. The blend of experience from seasoned campaigners like Ibrahima Sory Sankhon and emerging talents such as Sékou Keita gives Guinea a mix of stability and youthful energy.

With preparations now complete, Guinea’s focus turns to Morocco, where they will begin their campaign full of ambition and determination. After coming so close to a medal in 2016, the Syli National Local will be eager to make history by reaching the final—or even lifting the trophy this time around.
