A bus carrying players from the Ivory Coast’s second division team ES Bafing was attacked by armed men on Wednesday while traveling to the country’s western region for a league match. The attackers, believed to be bandits, opened fire on the bus when the driver refused to stop, resulting in the death of one player and serious injuries to 23 others. After the vehicle finally stopped, the gunmen entered and robbed the passengers of their valuables. The incident occurred in the western part of the country, an area where unidentified gunmen, suspected to be Liberian gangsters, are causing security concerns near the border.
