Italian-Nigerian defender Destiny Udogie receives Tottenham’s full support after alleged gun threat
Tottenham Hotspur have pledged full support to Italian-Nigerian defender Destiny Udogie after he was allegedly threatened with a firearm in North London.
British media reported that a football agent was arrested in connection with the incident, which took place on September 6.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed they were called that evening after a man in his 20s was threatened with a gun.
“We have been providing support for Destiny and his family since the incident and will continue to do so,” a Spurs spokesperson said. “Given this is a legal matter, we cannot comment any further.”
Police said another man in his 20s was also allegedly blackmailed and threatened by the same suspect, though no injuries were reported in either case.
“A 31-year-old man was arrested on Monday 8 September on suspicion of possession of firearms with intent, blackmail and driving without a license,” the police added. “He has been bailed while enquiries continue.”
The alleged attack has shaken Tottenham, who are standing firmly behind their player and his family as investigations progress.
Udogie has continued training with the team but has not made any public comments regarding the incident.
The 22-year-old, born in Italy to Nigerian parents, has become a key figure since joining from Udinese.
Spurs initially signed him in 2022 before loaning him back to the Serie A side for one season.
Since returning to London in 2023, Udogie has made 76 appearances across all competitions and earned praise for his defensive strength and attacking flair.
