We are well prepared to beat Sharjah – Algerian midfielder Houssem Aouar
Houssem Aouar, the Algerian midfielder for Al-Ittihad, voiced both frustration and determination before his team’s key match against UAE’s Sharjah in the elite Asian Champions League.
Speaking at the pre-game press conference, Aouar affirmed the squad’s readiness and emphasized the importance of playing at home in front of passionate supporters.
He expressed concern about the growing number of red cards affecting his teammates, noting that “these cards impact the team’s chances in matches and make things harder for us. Some of them weren’t even deserved.” Despite this, Aouar stressed, “This game is crucial. We are well prepared and determined to win, aiming to keep our hopes alive for the title.”
Al-Ittihad has received five red cards in their first thirteen matches this season, which has impacted their league position. They currently sit seventh in the western group standings, having beaten Al-Shorta from Iraq but fallen to Al Wahda and Shabab Al Ahli from the UAE. Sharjah, meanwhile, ranks sixth after beating Al Gharafa of Qatar and drawing with Al Sadd before a heavy defeat to Tractor of Iran.
