Fadlu Davids blasts Wydad’s tactics after Casablanca derby draw
Raja Athletic Club head coach Fadlu Davids has expressed his disappointment following a goalless stalemate against Wydad AC in Wednesday’s Casablanca Derby.
The Botola Pro League rivals shared the points after a tense encounter at the Mohamed V Stadium, leaving Davids’ side second on the table with 12 points from six matches, level on points with MAS Fes, who lead on goal difference.
The derby lived up to its reputation as a high-intensity affair, disrupted multiple times by flares and heavy smoke from the stands.
Davids, recently reinstated as head coach of the Green Eagles, criticized Wydad’s tactical approach while insisting his team deserved the win.
“We created real chances to score, but the repeated stoppages disrupted our rhythm and affected the overall quality of the match,” Davids told Sport Le Site.
“We aimed to decide the game early, but injuries to some players disrupted the team’s balance. I am disappointed because we deserved to win, but I am proud of the effort and determination shown by the players.”
Meanwhile, Wydad coach Amin Benhachem accused Raja’s players of deliberately wasting time during the contest. “Honestly, I did not expect this from Raja—every five minutes a player goes down,” Benhachem said.
“We, at Wydad, faced City and did not resort to this tactic of delaying the game.”
The stalemate leaves both Casablanca giants locked in a tight race at the top of the Botola Pro League, with Raja determined to bounce back in their next fixture.
