Jonathan Okita Joins MVV Maastricht in Search of More Playing Time
Jonathan Okita has taken a decisive step in his young career by moving to the Netherlands in search of greater opportunities. The 21-year-old Belgian striker of Congolese descent has officially signed a two-year contract with MVV Maastricht, a club competing in the Dutch second division. After his contract with Standard Liège expired at the end of June, Okita chose to continue his development abroad, hoping that consistent playing time will help him reach his full potential.
Okita, who came through the youth academies of Tubize and later Standard Liège, had long been considered a promising attacking talent. However, breaking into Standard’s first team proved to be a challenge, with strong competition limiting his chances to showcase his ability. To gain valuable match experience, the forward spent the previous season on loan — first at Roeselare and later at Union Saint-Gilloise. Unfortunately, his time at Roeselare was less fruitful than expected, as he struggled to find rhythm and regular minutes on the pitch.
Things began to improve slightly after his switch to Union Saint-Gilloise during the second half of the season. There, Okita managed to show flashes of his attacking qualities, particularly during the playoff phase, where he made six appearances and left a good impression with his pace, dribbling, and work ethic. Despite these encouraging signs, Standard Liège opted not to renew his contract, allowing him to leave as a free agent at the end of June.
Determined to continue his professional growth, Okita has now chosen MVV Maastricht as the next step in his journey. The Dutch second-tier club, known for giving young players opportunities to develop and express themselves, appears to be the ideal environment for the young forward to refine his skills. The two-year deal signals the club’s belief in Okita’s potential, as well as the player’s desire for stability and long-term progress.
