Al Ahly faces uncertainty over Mustafa Younes future

Former Al Ahly star Mustafa Younes finds himself in an uncertain position as the club navigates a complex dispute with its board under chairman Mahmoud El-Khatib.

The situation remains unclear, balancing between apology and reservations regarding his membership status.

The crisis began when Al-Ahly’s administration referred Younes to internal investigation following controversial statements across media platforms and YouTube videos that the club deemed insulting and accusatory toward board members. The club issued a formal statement: “The council unanimously decided to refer him to investigation by legal affairs, with suspension pending the completion of investigations, in accordance with the club’s statute.”

The Supreme Media Regulatory Council subsequently banned Younes from media appearances for three months and ordered removal of offensive videos from his YouTube channel. Meanwhile, prominent Al-Ahly figures like Mustafa Abdou and Mokhtar Mokhtar attempted mediation. During his investigation, Younes submitted both written and verbal apologies to El-Khatib and promised to cease such behavior.

However, El-Khatib reportedly remained hesitant about reconciliation, noting that “it’s illogical to repeatedly direct accusations that damage honor and integrity, then each time end with a new apology.” The investigation findings remain in a closed envelope awaiting review by the new board.
