Nigeria president, Bola Tinibu insists the Super Eagles deserves a place at the upcoming 2026 World Cup tournament, to be staged in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
The three-time AFCON winners produced a dominant display in Uyo to keep their 2026 FIFA World Cup hopes alive on Tuesday, beating Benin 4-0 to secure a spot in the inter-confederation playoffs.
Star striker Victor Osimhen was the hero of the night, scoring a sensational hat-trick, while Frank Onyeka added a late fourth goal as the Super Eagles swept aside their West African rivals in convincing fashion.
“While the job is not yet complete, I join millions of Nigerian football fans in wishing our team every success in the playoffs.
“The mood across the country reflects a shared belief that Nigeria deserves a place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which Canada, Mexico, and the United States will host.
The President further expressed the government’s complete support for the players and coaching staff as they pursue their qualification path.
“As your president, I assure you and the coaching crew of the Federal Government’s support as you strive to secure your place at the tournament. Nigerians everywhere believe in you, and I do too. We look forward to seeing you fly our flag proudly on the world stage.”
The Super Eagles will compete in the continental playoff set for November 2025 before the inter-continental playoff to determine their fate for the global showpiece next year.
