Gianni Infantino congratulates Egypt for World Cup qualification
Gianni Infantino, President of FIFA, sent a heartfelt letter to engineer Hany Abou Rida, head of the Egyptian Football Federation, to celebrate Egypt’s qualification for the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
Infantino’s letter applauded the Egyptian team’s outstanding performance in the African qualifiers, securing their spot with a victory against Djibouti, thanks to two goals from Mohamed Salah and an opener by Ibrahim Adel.
This accomplishment marks Egypt’s fourth World Cup appearance, but comes with extra pride, as the team qualified a round before the end of the group stage, remaining undefeated with seven wins and two draws. Infantino emphasized, “On behalf of the football community, I congratulate you on this well-deserved qualification. The national team showed a high fighting spirit and proved its ability to compete at a consistently excellent level.”
Abou Rida responded with gratitude for FIFA’s recognition, highlighting years of dedicated work that restored Egypt’s football glory. As fans prepare for massive celebrations in Cairo, hopes are high for a stronger World Cup run and new ambitious goals as Egypt readies to take on the world’s best teams.
