Moroccan national team defender Nayef Aguerd has spoken out following an attack he endured at Marignane Airport in France while waiting for his flight to join his country’s squad.

On his Instagram story, Aguerd confirmed, “Yes, I was assaulted, but the situation was quickly resolved thanks to the intervention of the police and airport security. The matter is now with the authorities.”

Aguerd, who plays for Olympique de Marseille, reassured his fans that he’s doing well: “Thankfully, I have not been injured and will stay focused on my responsibilities with my club and the national team.” He showed gratitude, adding, “Thank you to everyone who sent messages of support and concern. I was truly touched by your kindness. Let’s always remain calm and respectful; life goes on.”

According to French sports channel RMC, the incident began when an erratic individual in the VIP lounge asked Aguerd for a phone number and selfie, then tried to slap the footballer. Security acted fast, detaining the man, who has since been questioned by police. For Aguerd, the scare is over, and his focus returns to football and the support of his fans.
