Achraf Hakimi’s Ballon d’Or prospects divide opinion among former internationals

Spanish giants Real Madrid are continuously keeping tabs on Moroccan defender Achraf Hakimi.

The 26-year-old full-back was in sensational form during PSG’s recent Champions League clash against Barcelona, combining solid defensive play with his trademark attacking bursts down the right flank.

Hakimi has become one of the pillars of Luis Enrique’s side, providing leadership and consistency, and has already captained the French champions several times this season.

According to Spanish outlet MARCA, officials at the Santiago Bernabéu continue to monitor Hakimi’s development closely.

Many within the club still view his departure in 2020 as a misstep, especially given his rise to world-class status in Paris. With Kylian Mbappé, Hakimi’s close friend now at Real Madrid, speculation about a potential reunion has naturally grown stronger.

However, any move appears improbable for now. Hakimi remains under contract with PSG until 2029, and the club sees him, alongside Ousmane Dembélé and Vitinha, as a key part of its long-term vision.

Financial fair play constraints would also make a transfer difficult.

Hakimi is focused on PSG, while gearing up to represent Morocco at the 2025 CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
