In announcing the list of 23 players for the World Cup qualifier against Angola, Alain Giresse revealed that he used various means to convince Salif Sané to play for Senegal. Giresse acknowledged that it’s not easy to bring in a player for the first time and mentioned the support of Salif Sané’s brother, Lamine Sané from Bordeaux, in convincing him. The list also included Henri Saivet from Bordeaux, but Giresse mentioned that discussions with him are ongoing, suggesting that Saivet has not yet committed to playing for Senegal. Two players, Armand Traoré and Cheikhou Kouyaté, were not called up due to ailments. The team will regroup on May 29 in Brussels before heading to Luanda for the match against Angola.
