Liverpool confident Franco-Malian defender Ibrahima Konate will renew contract
Premier League giants Liverpool are confident of tying down France international of Malian descent Ibrahim Konate as he nears contract expiration.
The former RB Leipzig rock-solid centre-back, who is in the final year of his contract at Liverpool, has yet to sign a new deal for the club, sparking speculations about his future.
Liverpool initiated contract renewal talks with Konaté less than a year ago, but both parties have yet to reach a consensus, with offers falling below the defender’s expectations.
Meanwhile, contract renewal talks were put on hold for several months, allowing Konate to focus in the previous campaign, which culminated with a league-equaling record 20th title.
The Reds has restructured their offer on several occasions, with the latest bid landing two weeks ago. Talks remain underway between all parties involved, with Liverpool said to be confident of renewing the contract of the in-demand defender.
Meanwhile, several clubs, including Real Madrid, continue to monitor Konaté’s contractual situation.
Konaté joined Liverpool from RB Leipzig in 2021 for transfer fee reported to be €40m. He established himself as one of the best right-sided centre-backs in Europe alongside Virgil van Dijk.
