FIFA U20 Women’s WCQ: Kenya advance to third round after overcoming Ethiopia 5-1 on aggregate

The Kenya U20 women’s national team is through to the third round of the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers following a 5-1 aggregate victory against Ethiopia’s U20 women’s national team.

The Rising Starlets wrapped up the second-round tie in style with a commanding 4-0 victory at the Ulinzi Sports Complex on Sunday, September 28, 2025. Valerie Nekesa got the hosts off to a flying start with a fourth-minute opener, before Elizabeth Mideva doubled the lead in the 16th minute.

Fasila added a third shortly after the half-hour mark, and Mideva completed her brace in the 67th minute to cap a convincing performance.

In the first leg, played a week earlier at the Abebe Bikila Stadium in Addis Ababa, Mideva was also on target to secure a valuable 1-1 draw. Her three goals so far make her Kenya’s leading scorer in the qualifiers.

The result sets up an exciting East African derby in the next round, with Kenya set to face Tanzania in February 2026. The Starlets will host the first leg before travelling away for the return fixture.
