Mali is facing a crisis less than a month before the 2014 World Cup qualifiers, as coach Patrice Carteron is reportedly planning to leave. It is announced that he will be presented as the new coach of Tout Puissant Mazembe in DR Congo. The Malian Football Federation (FMF) is not willing to let this matter slide and is threatening sanctions against the French coach if he proceeds with the inevitable contract with TP Mazembe.
Negotiations with TP Mazembe are said to be advanced, and Carteron has expressed his desire to return to daily coaching duties. Some sources suggest that he hastened his departure due to a failure to reach an agreement for a new contract with the Malian authorities.
However, the Malian federation disputes these claims, pointing to Carteron’s existing contract, which runs until 2014. Carteron has already revealed his list for the upcoming June fixtures.
