Inter Milan join race to sign Dayot Upamecano
Italian Serie A side Inter Milan have joined the race to sign French defender of Guinean-Bissau descent, Dayot Upamecano.
According to reports, the club is ready to battle Real Madrid and Bayern Munich to secure the services of the centre-back.
Upamecano, 26, is one of Real Madrid’s top priorities for next summer when his contract runs out. However, Inter Milan are eager to bring him to the San Siro as they look to reinforce their ageing backline.
The Nerazzurri secured Manuel Akanji on loan from Manchester City earlier this summer but also saw Benjamin Pavard depart for Marseille.
With Stefan de Vrij and Francesco Acerbi nearing the twilight of their careers, the club is pushing for fresh quality alongside Alessandro Bastoni to keep their title ambitions strong.
Upamecano’s high wages could prove a stumbling block, yet Inter remain optimistic about sealing a Bosman deal, a strategy that has worked well in recent years with the signings of Hakan Calhanoglu, Marcus Thuram, Piotr Zielinski, and Mehdi Taremi.
Meanwhile, Bayern Munich are still in discussions with the defender’s camp over a possible contract extension.
Upamecano now needs to consider his options to decide on his future in the coming months.
