The Moroccan national team’s preparations for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations have reached completion with the inclusion of the duo Nacer Mazraoui and Amine Adli.
The pair will join the Moroccan team at their training base in San Pedro, Ivory Coast, on Wednesday, according to the Moroccan national team’s official newspaper.
Mazraoui’s delayed arrival is attributed to his commitment to a specialized treatment program with the medical staff at his German club, Bayern Munich.
On the other hand, Amine Adli rejoins the team after obtaining a short leave due to the recent passing of his mother.
Adli, the Bayer Leverkusen player, was initially part of the training camp with the Atlas Lions in Morocco before taking a short break due to personal family circumstances.
Morocco’s contingent was the first to arrive in Ivory Coast in anticipation of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, landing last Sunday.
The upcoming tournament, hosted by Ivory Coast, is scheduled to take place from January 13 to February 11, 2024.
The initial phase of the championship involves group-stage matches among 6 groups, with 16 teams advancing to the knockout rounds—12 top teams from the first and second places and 4 of the best third-placed teams.
In the previous edition held in Cameroon, Senegal secured the title, with Egypt finishing as the runner-up.
Egypt remains the most decorated team in the championship, clinching the title 7 times, followed by Cameroon with 5 titles and Ghana with 4 titles.
As Morocco assembles its formidable squad, football enthusiasts eagerly anticipate the commencement of the tournament, where fierce competition is expected among Africa’s football elite.
