CAF Confederation Cup: Advantage Asante Kotoko after thrilling 4-3 victory against Kwara United

Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko battled to secure a 4-3 victory over Nigerian outfit Kwara United on Sunday afternoon in the first leg of their CAF Confederation Cup tie.

On the matchday, the Porcupine Warriors struck first in the 18th minute through Emmanuel Antwi, but Kwara United hit back in the 34th minute when J. Atule powered home a header.

Albert Amoah restored Kotoko’s lead just before halftime, only for Atule to respond again two minutes later, ensuring the teams went into the break level at 2-2.

The second half burst into life almost immediately as J. Ablor fired Kotoko ahead in the 47th minute. The Ghanaian giants continued to press and were rewarded with a penalty after sustained pressure in the box. Amoah converted coolly in the 73rd minute to bag his brace and give Kotoko a 4-2 cushion.

Kwara United, however, refused to give up. A. Shola pulled one back in the 85th minute, but it wasn’t enough to deny Kotoko the victory in front of their home supporters at the Accra Sports Stadium.

With the narrow win, Asante Kotoko head into the return leg with a slender but valuable advantage as they continue their push for continental success.
