Hossam Ghaly stays away from Al Ahly meeting as voting generates dispute
Hossam Ghaly, one of Al Ahly’s most respected figures and now a board member, chose not to attend the club’s general assembly on Friday, a decision that drew attention from members and fans.
The gathering was held to vote on changes to the club’s bylaws in line with Egypt’s new sports law.
His absence came at a delicate time, with recent chatter about his possible ambition to contest for the club’s presidency in the future. While the rest of the board showed up, Ghaly’s empty seat was noted, underlining how central his presence is to Al Ahly affairs.
Former players including Mohsen Saleh, Abdel Moneim Mustafa Shatta, Walid Soliman, Shady Mohamed, and Yasser Rayan came forward to cast their votes, showing how much the amendments mean to the Al Ahly family.
The voting itself stirred arguments among members. There was no option to reject the changes outright, only to accept them fully or approve with suggested edits. Club sources confirmed to Kooora that the administrative body formally endorsed this approach.
