Wydad Athletic Club president Hicham Ait Mena has pledged to steer the Moroccan giants back to success after enduring a turbulent debut season at the helm.

Addressing the club’s General Assembly, Ait Mena described last year’s campaign as “hell,” admitting he was stunned by the scale of challenges he encountered.

“Let me confess to you the extent of this suffering,” he said. “I didn’t want to reveal it at the time to protect the club’s interests, but I was surprised by the magnitude of the problems I faced—issues I never expected.”

The Wydad president clarified that he was not blaming former officials, but stressed that the difficulties were far beyond what he could have imagined.

Ait Mena also voiced disappointment with the attitude of some sections of the club’s supporters, claiming they did not welcome Wydad’s return to continental competitions.

“In the final rounds, when we recorded consecutive victories, I was shocked to find that some affiliated with Wydad were not happy and even wished we hadn’t won,” he revealed. “This was painful for me.”

He acknowledged falling short of his initial objectives, particularly the target of reclaiming the CAF Champions League title, but promised a renewed push in the coming season.

“I admit I didn’t achieve what I had planned in my first year,” Ait Mena said. “But with enough support, trust, and stability, I promise to do everything possible to bring Wydad back to the top.”
