Mbaye Leye, the Senegalese striker with Zulte Waregem in the Jupiler Pro League, was awarded the “Soulier d’Ebène” on Monday. This accolade recognizes the best African player or player of African origin in Belgium. Leye’s impressive performances this season, where he scored 15 goals in the league and six in the playoffs, earned him this honor. He succeeded Dieumerci Mbokani from Anderlecht, and his Senegalese teammate Cheikhou Kouyaté secured the second position in the rankings. Other nominees included Nigerian Imoh Ezekiel from Standard Liège and Gambian Ibou Savaneh from Louvain.
