Mahmoud El Khatib, president of Al Ahly SC, has taken a firm step toward bringing in a new foreign coach to replace Spaniard Jose Riveiro.

His decision comes at a crucial moment as the club tries to recover from recent struggles in the Egyptian Premier League.

Riveiro was dismissed after a string of poor results, with the 2-0 loss to Pyramids FC being the final straw. That defeat left the Cairo giants sitting in 13th place, far below the standards expected by their fans.

An Al Ahly source told Kooora that El Khatib has instructed the planning committee, Osama Helal, the contracting director, and Mohamed Youssef, the sporting director, to speed up the process of choosing the next coach rather than wait until January.

He stressed his trust in Emad El-Nahhas and his staff to guide the team during this interim period but insisted the foreign coach decision must be settled soon to restore stability. A decisive meeting is expected within hours, with El Khatib himself set to attend.
