Pyramids FC have been dealt another setback as they prepare for their Intercontinental Cup meeting with Auckland City FC on Sunday at the Air Defense Stadium in Cairo.
The Egyptian side confirmed that key defender Ahmed Sami has picked up a knee injury, adding to a growing list of absentees.
Sami had been in camp with the national team but was forced out after the first friendly, missing the second game against Tunisia. He has since returned to Pyramids for treatment and has already started a rehabilitation program. Club doctors revealed that he will undergo further scans to determine how long he will be sidelined.
The injury adds to Pyramids’ defensive worries, with Mahmoud Marei already ruled out for a month. The squad is also missing Ramadan Sobhi and Mostafa Fathi, leaving the technical staff with difficult choices ahead of Sunday’s tie.
Despite the challenges, Pyramids remain focused on securing victory, as the winner will earn the chance to face Saudi side Al Ahly on September 23 in what promises to be a highly competitive fixture.
