FIFA President Gianni Infantino hails Tunisia after securing historic World Cup qualification
FIFA President Gianni Infantino has congratulated Tunisia following their qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, describing the Carthage Eagles as a team that continues to showcase passion and strength on the global stage.
Tunisia sealed their place at next summer’s showpiece in dramatic fashion on Monday evening, as Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane struck a stoppage-time winner in a 1–0 victory over Equatorial Guinea.
The result ensured Tunisia became the second African nation – after Morocco – to officially book a ticket to North America.
“Congratulations to Tunisia on qualifying for the FIFA World Cup 2026 in Canada, Mexico and the United States. For the seventh time in history – and third in a row – your stars will shine on the world stage,” Infantino said in his message on Instagram

The FIFA boss also recalled Tunisia’s recent milestones on football’s biggest platform, including their 2–1 triumph over Panama in Russia 2018 and the unforgettable 1–0 victory against reigning champions France in Qatar 2022.
“From the team’s historic FIFA World Cup win against Panama in 2018, to the unforgettable victory over world champions France in 2022, Tunisia has shown its passion and strength multiple times in recent years. See you soon on the world stage!” Infantino added.
The Carthage Eagles have dominated Group H of the African qualifiers, collecting 22 points from eight matches and astonishingly maintaining a perfect defensive record without conceding a single goal.
This qualification marks their seventh World Cup appearance, as they aim to progress beyond the group stages for the first time in their history.
With momentum, history, and now a president’s blessing, Tunisia head into 2026 as one of Africa’s hopefuls to make a lasting impact.
