Nigeria Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has been ruled out of the upcoming clash against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

He was forced off in the 35th minute and replaced by Panathinaikos striker Cyriel Dessers.

In a statement on Sunday, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) confirmed Osimhen will not travel with the squad to Bloemfontein.

“Team doctor confirmed Victor Osimhen’s injury is a bruise on his chin. He woke up this morning with discomfort and will not be travelling with the squad to South Africa for Tuesday’s game,” the NFF announced.

With Osimhen unavailable, Nigeria will look to in-form forward Tolu Arokodare to lead the line. The Wolverhampton striker made a decisive impact against Rwanda, coming off the bench to score the only goal of the match and secure three vital points.

The Super Eagles face South Africa in Bloemfontein on Tuesday in a clash that could prove pivotal in Group C’s qualification race.

Without Osimhen, the other strikers will need to step up to guide Nigeria to victory.
