2026 World Cup Qualifiers: Cedric Bakambu nets brace to power D.R Congo to 4-1 win against South Sudan
Experienced forward Cedric Bakambu scored twice on Friday afternoon, powering D.R. Congo to a 4-1 victory against South Sudan in the qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The attacker started for his side in the Round 7 fixture of the African qualifiers.
In what was a showdown in Group B, D.R. Congo struck first to stun the home team when Cedric Bakambu equalised with an assist from Joris Kayembe in the 23rd minute.
After 10 minutes, Bakambu was set up by Edo Kayembe and scored his second of the afternoon to complete a brace.
Before the brace, D.R. Congo made it 3-0 thanks to a goal from Nathanael Mbuku. Highly-rated forward Yoane Wissa provided the assist for that goal.
Although South Sudan would pull one back in the second half, a Yoane Wissa strike in the 57th minute doused the hosts’ chances of a comeback, forcing them to succumb to a 4-1 defeat.
For his sensational brace today, Cedric Bakambu was named Man of the Match.
