Luka Modric’s transfer to Real Madrid has been confirmed, with the Spanish club reaching an agreement with Tottenham. The Croatian midfielder, 26 years old at the time, signed a five-year contract with Real Madrid. The transfer fee amounted to 35 million euros, excluding bonuses.
Modric’s arrival at Real Madrid raised speculation about the potential departure of Kakà, another midfielder at the club. The Croatian midfielder was expected to join the team for training on the following Monday.
Modric had been with Tottenham since 2008 when he arrived from Dinamo Zagreb. During his time with Spurs, he played 160 matches and scored 17 goals. Daniel Levy, the president of Tottenham, expressed satisfaction with the transfer, stating that if Modric were to leave, it was fitting that it be for Real Madrid, anticipating a long and productive partnership between the clubs. Real Madrid’s president, Florentino Perez, also expressed delight in welcoming Modric to the team.
