Sparta Prague land Australian-South Sudanese winger Garang Kuol from Newcastle

Sparta Prague have strengthened their squad ahead of the new campaign by securing the services of winger Garang Kuol from Premier League side Newcastle United.

The 20-year-old forward has signed a long-term deal with the Czech champions as part of their squad rebuild.

Born in Egypt to South Sudanese parents and raised in Australia, Kuol embodies a dual heritage that has shaped both his personal story and his football journey.

Kuol began his professional career with Central Coast Mariners, breaking into the first team as a 16-year-old.

In just 22 appearances in the A-League, he delivered an impressive return of seven goals and four assists, quickly attracting attention from Europe.

His rise prompted Newcastle United to sign him in January 2023, though he spent most of his time on loan spells at Hearts in Scotland and Volendam in the Netherlands to gain further experience.

He also stood out for Newcastle’s reserves, netting five goals and providing four assists in Premier League 2 last season. His pace, direct style of play, and ability to operate across the front line make him a valuable addition to Sparta Prague’s attacking options.

Kuol already boasts international experience at the highest level. He made his debut for Australia at just 18 and was part of the squad that featured at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Notably, he started in the Socceroos’ Round of 16 clash against Argentina, before scoring his first senior international goal a few months later in a friendly against Ecuador.

For Sparta Prague, Kuol’s signing is a statement of intent as they look to blend youth, speed, and creativity into their team for both domestic and European competitions.
