Eliminated from the CAN 2013 race, Uganda’s coach, Bobby Williamson, is struggling to accept the outcome and is particularly critical of CAF regulations, especially those related to penalties in the event of a tie between teams after two matches. Expressing his bitterness after the Cranes lost in a penalty shootout (9-8), Williamson finds fault with this provision.
“We should play extra time instead of going straight to penalties. We won 1-0, and it’s unfair to get knocked out like that,” remarked Williamson. He also contends that the reigning champions, Zambia, should automatically qualify for the CAN.
Goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene also faced criticism from Bobby Williamson. “I don’t like Mweene being so unsportsmanlike. In the second half, he repeatedly delayed the game.” Despite these grievances, Uganda will have to continue waiting to break their 34-year absence record from the CAN.
