Former Ghana head coach Otto Addo has said that Egypt will be the easiest country the Black Stars will play against at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, which is beginning next week in Ivory Coast.
Ghana have been paired in Group B that includes Egypt, Cape Verde, and Mozambique.
Egypt have been to two finals in the last three editions of the AFCON, which automatically makes them one of the favourites to win the ultimate at the end of the tournament.
Addo, who guided the Black Stars to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, believes Egypt wouldn’t be difficult to overcome when the two countries face off in Ivory Coast.
“I think the easiest game may be against Egypt because their team is very well balanced.” Addo told GTV Sports Plus.
“They are the favourites in this game, so it is easier to stand behind when people don’t expect too much from you.”
The former Ghana international midfielder continued with his statement, claiming the smaller teams might be quite dangerous.
“It is easier than to play the so-called small countries which are football educated, know how to defend and it will be very tough to break them down.”
Egypt will seek to make amends this time by achieving a record extending 8th AFCON trophy.
The second group game of Group B will feature Ghana and Egypt in a total showdown at the Stade Félix Houphouët Boigny in Abidjan on January 18.
