Haras El Hodoud snatch late draw against Al Masry in league clash
Haras El Hodoud kept their fighting spirit alive on Tuesday as they earned a dramatic 1-1 draw with Al Masry of Port Said in the fourth round of the Egyptian Premier League at the New Suez Stadium.
The visitors had fallen behind early when Algerian forward Mondher Tamine struck in the 18th minute, giving Al Masry control of the game. For much of the evening, it looked as though the Border Guards would return home empty-handed.
But Abdel Hamid Bassiouni’s men refused to give up. Deep into stoppage time, Mohamed Ashraf Roqa kept his nerve and converted a penalty in the 90+2 minute, sparking celebrations among the Haras El Hodoud players and their bench.
The draw took the Border Guards to 5 points, pushing them into eighth place and keeping them within reach of the top half of the table.
Al Masry, guided by Tunisian coach Nabil El Kouki, moved to 8 points and sit second on goal difference behind Zamalek. The Port Said side missed the chance to reclaim the lead after conceding so late.
