Senegal: Football Championship Temporarily Suspended

The Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) has announced a temporary pause in the domestic football calendar, with league action set to resume on February 16. The decision will see Senegalese clubs take a break of approximately 10 to 11 days.

According to the federation, the suspension has been prompted by two main factors. Firstly, the Senegalese national team, known as the Lions of Teranga, will play a friendly international against Mexico. The break ensures that players from the domestic league can be available for selection and adequately prepared for the match.

Secondly, two Senegalese clubs are involved in continental competitions. AS Douanes and Génération Foot are set to participate in the preliminary rounds of the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederation Cup, respectively. The pause in domestic fixtures will allow these teams to focus fully on their continental campaigns without conflicting league commitments.

The federation’s decision reflects a growing recognition of the importance of balancing domestic schedules with both international duties and participation in CAF competitions. By providing a short break, Senegalese football authorities aim to ensure that clubs and national team players are in optimal condition for these high-stakes matches.

Fans and stakeholders have been asked to take note of the resumption date, February 16, when league action will continue as normal.
