Etoile du Sahel, the reigning Tunisian champion, has been disqualified from the group stage of the African Champions League by the CAF (Confederation of African Football) Disciplinary Commission. The decision was made in response to violence that occurred in the club’s stadium on August 19. After Etoile’s defeat against Esperance de Tunis (2-0), disgruntled supporters invaded the pitch and threw smoke bombs throughout the stadium. The CAF Disciplinary Commission, citing competition regulations, disqualified Etoile du Sahel. As a result, all matches played by the club in the group stage were canceled, and the standings were recalculated with Esperance de Tunis and Sunshine Stars of Nigeria each having 6 points. This decision qualifies Esperance de Tunis and Sunshine Stars for the semi-finals, while Aso Chlef of Algeria finishes last in the group with 0 points.
