Riyad Mahrez played a decisive role as Al-Ahli lifted the Saudi Super Cup in Hong Kong, defeating Al-Nassr 5-3 on penalties after a dramatic 2-2 draw.

Cristiano Ronaldo put Al-Nassr ahead in the 41st minute, but Franck Kessié equalised deep into first-half stoppage time.

Marcelo Brozović looked to have won it for Al-Nassr with a late strike on 83 minutes, only for Mahrez to deliver again.

His precise corner found Ibanez, who headed home the equaliser in the 88th minute.

In the shootout, Al-Ahli held their nerve to secure victory, adding a second major trophy since Mahrez’s arrival, following their Asian Champions League triumph.

The Algerian captain had already impressed in the semi-final with two assists against Al-Qadsiya and once more showcased his ability to rise to the occasion.

With this latest success, Mahrez has strengthened his legacy at Al-Ahli and reaffirmed his reputation as one of football’s defining big-game players.
