Mathieu Dossevi Thriving at Standard Liège
Togolese midfielder Mathieu Dossevi has quickly become a key figure for Standard Liège since joining the Belgian side on loan from Olympiakos Pyrée. His impressive performances have prompted the club to consider exercising the purchase option, signalling their intent to make the loan move permanent.
Dossevi’s influence in midfield has been apparent throughout the season, with the 27-year-old contributing both creativity and stability. His technical skill and maturity on the ball have made him one of the standout performers at Standard, earning praise from teammates, coaches, and supporters alike.
In an interview with Sud Info, Dossevi reflected on his current form and the confidence that has driven his performances. “It’s one of the best periods of my career, I don’t know if it’s THE best. The contexts are different. In any case, I’m enjoying myself,” he said. “When you’re feeling good, you have to make the most of it. Does everything seem easy for me? I’m simply comfortable in my own skin. When you’re comfortable in your head, in your body, things happen more naturally. I’m more mature, I try not to overdo it, to give my best.”
The midfielder also touched on the personal side of life, admitting that fatherhood has brought some sleepless nights but that the positives far outweigh the challenges. “With the birth, my nights are a little complicated (smile) but there are so many good things besides…” Dossevi explained.
Standard Liège will be hoping that Dossevi continues to flourish as they aim for domestic success and a strong finish to the season. His form not only strengthens the squad but also demonstrates the value of strategic loan deals, with the potential for long-term impact both on and off the pitch.
As Dossevi settles into Belgian football, his maturity, confidence, and versatility make him a vital component of Standard’s plans, and his performances could pave the way for further recognition at both club and international levels.
