Nigeria unveils 31-man squad for crucial World Cup qualifiers

Super Eagles to hold closed-door training ahead of Zimbabwe clash

Nigeria has released its provisional 31-man squad for the upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and South Africa in September, as the Super Eagles look to revive their campaign.

The squad features a mix of experienced players and emerging talents across all positions. Four goalkeepers made the list including Stanley Nwabali and Amas Obasogie, while the defensive line boasts nine players led by William Troost-Ekong and Calvin Bassey.

The midfield department sees seven players called up, with Alexander Iwobi and Frank Onyeka expected to provide creativity and steel in the center of the park. Wilfred Ndidi returns to add experience to the squad.

Up front, eleven forwards have been selected, including Victor Osimhen, Samuel Chukwueze, and Ademola Lookman, giving the coaching staff plenty of attacking options.

Nigeria currently sits fourth in Group C with seven points from six matches, making these upcoming fixtures against Rwanda on September 6 and South Africa on September 9 absolutely crucial for their World Cup qualification hopes.

The final squad will be trimmed down before the matches as Nigeria seeks to climb up the group standings.
