Mohamed El-Shenawy has shown his strength and commitment by returning to Al Ahly training just days after losing his father.
The veteran goalkeeper joined the team’s group session on Friday morning ahead of their clash with Ghazl El Mahalla in the fourth round of the Egyptian Premier League on Monday.
El-Shenawy had been in his hometown of Al-Hamoul, Kafr El-Sheikh, where he received condolences after his father’s passing on Wednesday evening. Despite the grief, the international keeper chose to rejoin his teammates and continue preparations for the league campaign.
Before training, Spanish coach Jose Riveiro gathered the squad for a technical talk, stressing tactical details for the upcoming match. The session itself was demanding, with physical drills testing the players’ endurance.
Goalkeepers Mohamed El-Shenawy, Mostafa Shobeir, and Mohamed Seha had separate focused training to sharpen their reflexes. The squad also worked through tactical exercises designed to adapt for Mahalla’s style.
Al Ahly enters this round with momentum after their 4-1 victory over Pharco, where Mohamed Sherif, Ahmed Sayed Zizo with a brace, and Gradishar found the net.
