Aaron Wan-Bissaka has taken another step in his international journey after being named in the Democratic Republic of Congo’s squad for September’s FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
The 27-year-old defender will be hoping to make an impact in what will be his second call-up to the senior team, following his first earlier this year in May. It is a special moment for Wan-Bissaka, whose ties to DR Congo run deep. Back in 2015, he made a brief appearance for their under-20 side before choosing to represent England at youth level.
Now, after years of top-level football with Crystal Palace and Manchester United, Wan-Bissaka has the opportunity to wear DR Congo’s colours on the world stage.
The Leopards will begin their campaign against South Sudan on September 5, an away fixture that could hand Wan-Bissaka a chance to impress. Three days later, they face a tough test against African giants Senegal, a match that will demand composure and quality.
